OptoNews: New case study - University's power comes from the sun

Hashemite University uses Opto 22 products to control its solar PV systemAlthough we may think of Middle Eastern countries as being oil-rich, that description doesn't always apply. The country of Jordan, for example, has typically imported 96% of its energy from neighboring countries.

But Jordan has plenty of sun, and the government is committed to investing heavily in renewable energy. 

When Hashemite University (HU) in Zarqa decided to build a photovoltaic (PV) system for the campus, they contacted FB Group in Amman. FB Group found that the system would require integrating hardware and software from multiple vendors, including ABB and Campbell Scientific. 

To tie these various pieces of technology together and automate the solar plant, the control system would have to provide:

  • Enhanced protocol support
  • Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) capabilities
  • A solid track record of reliable operation in harsh, high-temperature environments
